Joseph Vogele AG traces its roots to 1836, when Ulrich Joseph Vogele founded the company in Mannheim, Germany, initially producing components for the railway industry. The firm moved into road construction technology in the 1920s and, in 1929, presented what it describes as the world's first road paver, a towed spreader. That early innovation set the direction for a company that would go on to specialize almost exclusively in asphalt paving equipment.

Today Vogele is regarded as the world market leader for road pavers. Its product range covers wheeled and tracked pavers for a wide spectrum of applications, from compact machines for footpaths, cycle paths and utility works to large highway-class pavers used on motorways and airfields, along with the screeds that shape and pre-compact the asphalt mat. The brand is known for paving quality, screed technology and control systems aimed at producing consistent, high-density surfaces.

Since 1996 Vogele has been part of the Wirtgen Group, the German road-construction machinery group whose brands also include Wirtgen, Hamm, Kleemann and Benninghoven. The Wirtgen Group was acquired by John Deere in 2017, giving Vogele access to a global manufacturing, sales and support network. In 2010 the company relocated to a large purpose-built facility in Ludwigshafen, significantly expanding its production capacity for road pavers.

For Canadian contractors, Vogele pavers are supported through the Wirtgen Group's North American dealer and parts network, which handles sales, service and support for road-building fleets. Because paving crews depend on machine uptime during short northern construction seasons, the availability of Vogele equipment and parts through established Canadian dealers makes the brand a relevant option for asphalt paving, road rehabilitation and infrastructure projects across the country.
