SANY Heavy Industry was founded in 1989 by Liang Wengen and three partners in Lianyuan, a small city in Hunan Province, with 60,000 yuan in start-up capital and an ambition that seemed wildly disproportionate to their resources: to build a Chinese equipment brand capable of competing globally with Caterpillar, Komatsu, and Liebherr. What followed was one of the most remarkable corporate growth stories in the history of the construction equipment industry. Within fifteen years, SANY had become China's largest construction machinery manufacturer. Within twenty-five years, it ranked among the top five globally by revenue. By 2023, SANY had secured the third position in the global construction equipment market, a standing achieved through a combination of aggressive product investment, rigorous quality improvement, and a willingness to enter export markets with pricing that established Western and Japanese brands could not easily match.

Concrete machinery is where SANY first established its global technical reputation. The company's truck-mounted concrete pumps, stationary concrete pumps, and concrete mixer trucks are used on some of the world's largest construction projects, and SANY's pump engineers hold records for distance and height of concrete placement. This specialization in concrete equipment - a segment largely ignored by the traditional heavy equipment majors - gave SANY a product category where it could establish quality credentials without immediately confronting the entrenched reputations of Caterpillar or Komatsu in earthmoving.

Excavators came next, and SANY's SY-series machines quickly accumulated millions of operating hours in the Chinese domestic market before entering export markets. The data gathered from that enormous domestic installed base allowed SANY engineers to identify failure modes and refine component specifications in ways that accelerated the product development cycle dramatically. The SY215 and SY335 excavators that Canadian contractors encounter today embody that accumulated engineering experience, delivering competitive fuel consumption, reliable hydraulic performance, and Tier 4 Final emissions compliance.

SANY's crane division - producing both truck cranes and crawler cranes spanning from 25 tonnes to over 3,200 tonnes of lift capacity - serves the Canadian oil and gas construction sector, where major plant turnarounds and module lifting operations require heavy lift capabilities that only a handful of manufacturers worldwide can supply. SANY Canada Ltd. manages distribution and support nationally, with a parts and service network dimensioned to support the brand's growing Canadian installed base across a product lineup that spans more categories than almost any other single manufacturer in the market.
