CIFA was founded on 7 July 1928 by Carlo Ausenda as Compagnia Italiana Forme Acciaio, initially producing steel formwork for concrete casting under a patent acquired from the American firm Blaw Knox. Over the following decades the company shifted decisively toward concrete machinery: it built its first batching plant in 1956, launched its first truck mixer in 1958, and introduced its first concrete pumps at the end of the 1960s. In 1974 CIFA designed and built the world's first mixer pump, a machine that combined the ability to transport concrete with the ability to pump it on site, later branded Magnum in 1987.
Today CIFA is headquartered in Senago, near Milan, and manufactures a broad range of concrete-handling equipment: truck mixers, truck-mounted and stationary concrete pumps, self-loading and mixer pumps, batching plants, and specialized machines for underground and tunnelling applications. Truck mixers have been produced at the Castiglione delle Stiviere plant since 1972, while Senago houses production of truck-mounted pumps, stationary pumps and underground-application products. Since 2008 CIFA has been part of Zoomlion, a Chinese construction-machinery multinational, which has supported its international expansion.
